ARTIFICIAL TEARS

Torrente Lappio (PZ), 2026 / 1,5 lt. condensate water

On a sweltering day, an air conditioner produces condensation water, water that is normally considered waste. Over the course of a day, the artist collects 1.5 litres of this water and pours it into the bed of a completely dried-up river: these are the “tears of the air conditioner.”
The paradox is striking: on the one hand, we have water devoid of value, which we do not know what to do with; on the other, we are surrounded by rivers where there is no water left.
A small, entirely artificial water cycle that speaks of our ability to create comfort and, at the same time, of our difficulty in giving back to nature what it is losing.
One and a half litres cannot fill the river, but they make visible how much is missing, becoming a measure of absence and highlighting the disproportion between our consumption and the scale of the climate crisis.
As the river dries up, the air conditioner cries.
