The first podium, “Panem”, illustrates how work has become synonymous with mere survival rather than an opportunity for growth and progress. Every day, millions of people struggle to (not) make ends meet, accepting underpaid jobs with minimal health and safety protections—a sort of "podium of exploitation." Labor market analyses have highlighted how large-scale retail, food delivery, and construction rank among the worst sectors in terms of wages, contracts, workplace environment, and occupational safety. Thousands of people nourish the utopian hope of one day stopping this daily "race" for a piece of bread.
The second podium, “Circenses”, offers a contemporary take on the "games" provided by the powers that be—games that, through deception, offer false promises of freedom, equality, and individual fulfillment. The sculpture itself is a podium representing what lies behind that illusion of a fair, meritocratic game played on a level playing field.
Today’s society tolerates no mere participants, only winners; it is built entirely around excelling. Social networks, advertising, and economic policies focus exclusively on becoming number one, no matter the cost. The pursuit of social advancement has been reduced solely to reaching the top spot—moving further and further away from the core values of a democratic society.

Il primo podio, "Panem", racconta come il lavoro sia ormai un sinonimo di sopravvivenza e non una possibilità di crescita e progresso. Milioni di persone lottano quotidianamente per (non) arrivare a fine mese, accettando lavori sottopagati e poco tutelati dal punto di vista della salute e della sicurezza: una sorta di “podio dello sfruttamento”. Analisi e indagini sul mercato del lavoro hanno evidenziato come i settori della grande distribuzione di prodotti, il food-delivery e l’edilizia siano i peggiori in termini di retribuzione, contrattualistica, ambiente lavorativo e sicurezza sul lavoro. Migliaia di persone sperano, utopicamente, di poter smettere di “gareggiare” ogni giorno per un pezzo di pane.
Il secondo podio, "Circenses", offre un’interpretazione contemporanea di quei “giochi” messi a disposizione dai poteri che, imbrogliando, regalano finte prospettive di libertà, parità e possibilità di realizzazione individuale all’interno della società.
La scultura è un podio che rappresenta ciò che sta dietro quell’inganno che ci prospetta un gioco pulito, meritocratico, ad armi pari.
La società odierna non ammette partecipanti, ma solo vincitori; è improntata sul primeggiare: social networks, pubblicità, politiche economiche si focalizzano esclusivamente sull’essere il numero uno, non importa come. La cosiddetta scalata sociale prevede solamente il raggiungimento del primo posto, sempre più lontano dai valori su cui si dovrebbe basare una società democratica.
