ALL OF THE LIGHTS with Rub Kandy
Milan, 2019 / performance - Korman 720W, electric wire
A collaboration between artists Rub Kandy and Biancoshock, the independent operation All Of The Lights consisted in the temporary reactivation of the electric current, through a small gasoline generator, inside an abandoned factory near Milan.
The choice of the abandoned factory as a laboratory for experimentation is part of the cultural background of graffiti writing shared by the two artists, proposing a process of urban regeneration with a strikingly pop taste and a bitter aftertaste. In fact, the All Of The Lights project references Kanye West's 2011 hit feat. Rihanna and Kid Cudi, partly incorporating its soundtrack and graphics into the video documenting the work in progress.
The urban regeneration within this artistic-conceptual project presents peculiar, condensed features compared to the usual processes accompanying this type of operation: it limits itself to reactivating the space—restoring its lighting, ventilation, and sound—and communicating the final outcome in a disruptive and stentorian manner. It thus compresses regeneration into its beginning (the electrical reactivation of the space) and its end (communication as the final stage of promoting an event). Subtly, it underlines the void in between.

"Frutto di una combo tra gli artisti Rub Kandy e Biancoshock, l'operazione indipendente All Of The Lights è consistita nella riattivazione temporanea della corrente elettrica, tramite un piccolo generatore a benzina, all'interno di una fabbrica abbandonata vicino Milano.
La scelta della fabbrica abbandonata quale luogo-laboratorio di sperimentazione si inserisce nel background culturale del graffiti writing comune ai due artisti, proponendo un processo di rigenerazione urbana dal gusto vistosamente pop e dal retrogusto amaro. Il progetto All Of The Lights cita infatti l'omonima hit del 2011 di Kanye West feat Rihanna e Kid Cudi, riprendendone in parte la colonna sonora e la grafica nel video che accompagna la documentazione del work in progress.
La rigenerazione urbana del progetto artistico-concettuale presenta delle caratteristiche peculiari ridotte rispetto al consueto processo che accompagna questo tipo di operazioni: si limita a riattivare lo spazio ripristinandone l'illuminazione, la ventilazione, la sonorizzazione e a comunicarne l'esito definitivo in maniera dirompente e stentorea. Condensa e comprime dunque la rigenerazione nel suo inizio (la riattivazione elettrica dello spazio) e nella sua fine (la comunicazione come fase ultima di promozione di un evento). Sottilmente segnala il vuoto nel mezzo."
