The intervention addresses the issue of fast fashion—an approach adopted by brands that relies on the mass production of low-quality clothing sold at rock-bottom prices, designed for rapid store availability and constant inventory turnover. To sustain this pace, production is outsourced to countries where labor comes at virtually zero cost.
First and foremost, it is the workers who pay the price: receiving meager wages, lacking basic protections, and forced to endure increasingly harsh conditions. Furthermore, the environmental toll of such a massive, high-speed production system is entirely ignored, while goods stowed in shipping containers cross the oceans continuously to minimize logistical costs.
Five cargo containers spell out the word MERCI ("goods" in Italian)—a symbol of this frantic mass production that literally identifies the cargo within. Yet, as their doors swing open, a moral void is exposed, with the doors coming together to form the word LESS.
Conceptually, a Pandora’s box is unsealed, revealing everything hidden behind a €5 t-shirt. LESS as in less workplace safety; LESS as in underpaid labor driven by thousands willing to accept desperate wages; LESS as in less content with the slave-like conditions they endure. It is a "LESS" that lays bare the ruthless mechanisms and algorithms of a non-stop capitalist production cycle.
The fusion of what appears on the outside (MERCI) and what is concealed within (LESS) forms a single word that perfectly sums up this production system: MERCILESS.

L’intervento affronta il tema del fast fashion, un approccio usato dai Brand che implica una produzione massiva di capi di abbigliamento di bassa qualità venduti a prezzi ridottissimi, con la capacità di veloce disponibilità in negozio e collezioni continuamente riassortite. Per sostenere questi ritmi la produzione avviene in Paesi dove la manodopera è praticamente a costo zero. Anzitutto, a pagarne le sorti, sono i lavoratori, che hanno un salario basso e sono costretti a lavorare in condizioni sempre più difficili, con zero tutele. Inoltre, non è preso in considerazione l’impatto ambientale provocato da un sistema produttivo così massivo e veloce. Le merci allocate in container si muovono ininterrottamente via mare per ottimizzare i costi di gestione.
I cinque container cargo compongono appunto la parola MERCI, simbolo di questo folle processo massivo di produzione, indicando il contenuto dei cargo merci. Aprendo le loro porte si apre un vuoto valoriale, con i portelloni che unendosi compongono la parola LESS.
Concettualmente si apre un vaso di Pandora, dove emerge tutto quello che sta dietro una maglietta che costa 5€.
Less come meno sicurezza sul lavoro, less come lavoro sottopagato perché ci sono migliaia di persone disposte ad accettare stipendi bassissimi, less come meno contenti delle condizioni schiavistiche in cui lavorano. Un Less che mette in luce i meccanismi spietati e algoritmi di un sistema capitalistico di produzione a ciclo continuo.
L'unione di ciò che appare esternamente, le merci, e ciò che si nasconde dentro, il less, forma una parola che sintetizza perfettamente questo sistema produttivo: MERCILESS.
